Message from Mr Rajesh Ramloll SCConference Chairman, IFA-Mauritius
Dear IFA friends,
IFA celebrates this year its 80th anniversary.
The longevity of our organisation is thanks, inter alia, to its independence and thanks to the platform it provides (with its sister organisation the IBFD) for experts from the world over to discuss topical issues in taxation and international taxation. It bears reminding that concepts such as ”double non taxation”were openly discussed for the first time at IFA Congresses. Today, this is now incorporated as a minimum standard in the preamble of model tax treaties and in Article 6 of the Multilateral Instrument (MLI).
The 12th IFA Mauritius Conference will be a unique occasion to discuss 2 burning topics:
- First, the challenges under Action 1 of BEPS taxation of the digital economy (immediately almost after the release in April 2018 of the OECD interim report on same); and
- Second, the vexed question of arbitration in taxation matters (where some countries have raised the issue of sovereignty to disapprove of arbitral process in taxation).
To discuss the above,we would have in our midst world class speakers such as Prof Kees Van Raad, Dr Rick MacDonell and to speak on the OECD report on tax of digital economy, Pascal St Amans.
I entreat members as well as non members to attend the Conference as it offers a unique platform to listen to and discuss with the experts during the 2 days. Proceedings of the conference will be summarised by our media partner TaxSutra.
I wish to seize this opportunity to thank warmly our sponsors for their support, including the media sponsors.
Rajesh Ramloll SC (Conference Director)
